Israel’s Roots in History

I am not sure that arguing with the president of Iran will get you anywhere.  Nevertheless, when somebody tries to rewrite history he needs to be called out.  Richard Elliot Friedman does that very well in this PDF editorial.

The claim was that “Israel has no roots there in history.”  Friedman points out that Israel does have roots there in history.

“But how do we know if this is true? As scholars, we can’t just say, ‘The Bible tells us so.’ We need to see evidence that could be presented to any honest person, whether that person be religious or not, Jewish or Christian or from some other religion or no religion, or from Mars.”
