The discovery of the Higgs-Bosen particle would be a big deal for physicists and, maybe, for all of us. But journalists have been calling it the God particle. Scientists don’t call it that. I don’t know of any theologians who call it that.
In fact, it is pretty funny that originally someone seems to have called it the goddamned particle, because it was so hard to find. The God particle cleans up the language, but doesn’t contribute anything to understanding it. Here is an article that seems to get its facts straight.
